Outside in the forest along the magical journey, earth-like tones of yellows, greens, browns, and oranges are sweeping and always extremely detailed. Even its eyes have wood and odd red color to them. The Green Knight itself has vivid browns and greens where the many nuanced tree-like colors come to life through the Dolby Vision. From here, the misty and cool exteriors of the castle that mix with the greys and amber coloring inside the structure look amazing. These black levels are exquisite and inky all around, showcasing some fine detail in the outfit, but the fire brightens up the area with its intense orange and yellow flames perfectly. The first sequence reveals a dark room with the main protagonist sitting on a throne, engulfed in flames.

With impressive visual and practical effects, and award-worthy performances from Patel, Alicia Vikander, and Joel Edgerton, The Green Knight is a rare gem of a film that doesn't come along very often. Gawain's (Dev Patel) transformation from a party animal who is only thinking about drinking and sex, soon embarks on an adventure that will test his faith, courage, and trust in himself and others to do the right thing and stay on the correct path of righteousness and peace when needed. Through a fantastic vision, Sir Gawain is granted a certain opportunity to prove his worthiness to the King and Queen, by making a deal with a creature that takes a year to see through.

Together they are John Hughes best couple, even though he didn't direct this film.A different kind of Christmas movie serves up tales of courage, change, and terror in David Lowery's wonderful epic movie The Green Knight. Stoltz has the harder more thankless role, and gives it a depth and charm that are a relief to see, and Masterson all but steals the movie. But the strength of the film is the fine acting. Great supporting actors like John Ashton and Elias Koteaus provide fun comedy breaks, and little Candace Cameron as the little sister is terrific too- she went on to great TV fame.

This one has stayed with me since it came out, and I've watched it since and it holds up really well. The chemistry between Stolz and Masterson is powerful and real, something missing in almost all John Hughes films, and it pays off. By switching the sexes- Eric Stoltz as Molly Ringwald, and Mary Stuart Masterson as Jon Cryer- of "Pretty in Pink", the film delves deeper than "The Breakfast Club"- almost accidentally. A great mix of comedy and teen melodrama, this film perfectly combined all the best elements of a John Hughes film. I know it's not as well known, but this film came together so well that it can't be denied.
